PayiQ has added a new Park and Ride feature to Turku’s public transport Föli app. Park and Ride aims to reduce traffic and make urban traveling easier.
The city of Turku and Turku region traffic Föli have started a Park and Ride trial in September. Drivers can park their car in a certain parking area and continue their journey using public transport. Park and Ride is designed to facilitate travel in urban areas, reduce traffic load and improve the quality of the environment.
Park and Ride parking is free and intended for those using public transport for connections. It can only be taken into use with the public transport Föli app that is developed and maintained by PayiQ. Park and Ride is activated in the app by adding your vehicle’s registration number. Drivers then buy a bus ticket in the app and that also serves as a parking ticket for the next 12 hours.
“Park and Ride is intended especially for those drivers who want to reduce the use of their own car. We believe that specifically commuters and drivers heading further to the city center who do not want to drive or park in the city center could benefit from the system. We are waiting with interest to see how Park and Ride will be received”, says project coordinator Eetu Sonck.
“PayiQ is dedicated to assisting cities and companies in reducing CO2 emissions and thus we were inspired to develop this new feature to Föli app. Turku and Föli are our oldest customers, and we have had very fruitful co-operation during the past ten years. Park and Ride furthers our goals by using soft measures such as incentives to encourage people to reduce their carbon footprint” tells PayiQ’s CEO Elena Lipchenko.
