During 2018, 26.6 million trips were made in Turku region public transport. Adoption of mobile ticketing has been growing very fast. Due to ease of use and new services, the amount of mobile ticketing has almost doubled in terms of sold tickets, representing already over 800,000 trips. These new mobile services were, for example, on-demand bus services and combination tickets to buses and the steamboat Ukkopekka during the summer months.
Finnish people are really embracing mobile payment, and a large number of Pivo users are active commuter. When buying tickets directly with Pivo Wallet, they will have their tickets conveniently on their mobile phone at all times.
Mobile tickets make traveling with buses not only easier but also more attractive. Kouvola’s goal is to increase the number of passengers and the launching of a new ticket products is a part of this goal.
Kuopio’s citizens have adopted to using mobile tickets very well, already mobile tickets’ portion of the sale of single tickets is almost 25 percent. The number of people using mobile tickets grows 8 to 9 percent each month. As technology develops and we can install QR code reading devices to all the buses, we can broaden the app’s production selection to include also season tickets.
